Storyhouse is seeking a freelance writer to commission and develop an original new work with the Storyhouse Young Company as part of Storyhouse’s 10th anniversary celebrations and the 2027 training programme.​

Storyhouse Young Company (SYC) is a free training scheme for 18–25-year-olds developing their performance and creative practice.​

This is an exciting opportunity to work with a diverse group of emerging young artists to create an ambitious, contemporary new piece of theatre. We are looking for experienced writers with a strong track record of working with and for diverse groups of young people.​

The writer will facilitate a series of research and development workshops with the Young Company and wider participant groups to develop the stimulus and creative foundation for the final piece.​

The role will be based at Storyhouse, Chester, with some R&D workshops in Blacon, Lache, and Winsford. The post is subject to an Enhanced DBS check.

Fee: £4000 (inclusive fee)​
This fee covers the full commission, including development and delivery of the script, attendance at script development meetings, ad hoc rehearsal attendance, and all associated travel expenses.​
